Welcome to what is going to be a a great conference for those interested in ICT and language learning.
IATEFL’s Learning Technology SIG was very happy to be asked by David O Grady, CEO of Marketing English in Ireland to help organise a conference in Dublin. The organising committee has also benefited from the support of Sue Hackett of NQAI-ACELS , the expertise of Ian Butler from LingleOnline sponsorship by NDRC/Lingleonline to enable us to hold the event in the Digital Hub. ‘What’s not to like?’ as they say.
A learning and networking conference
This is not just another ed tech conference. For a start there haven’t been too many in Ireland focussing on language learning. More than that though, it is a learning and networking conference. What do we mean by that?
- Well, we have picked the themes to address some of the biggest trends in technology and language learning -‘social’, ‘mobile’ and ‘web 2.0 – geddit?
- We have brought in speakers with real expertise in these areas .
- We have a format which goes like this: Day 1 – talks (mostly). Day 2 – training / workshops. Day 2 consists of a half day workshop on each of the three themes. They are designed so beginners can get off the blocks while people with more expertise can share.
- There will be plenty of opportunities to talk about your own projects, strengthen your networks and even take to the stage (we have an open mic session)
More information coming very soon but watch out for announcements on sponsors, speakers and fun events.
Our hashtag for the event will be #smw2dublin
